Joshua King
Dear UCCR, I have enjoyed my association with UCCR and its members over the years and appreciate and accept this nomination. I now ask for your vote. If elected my main objective would be to provide a voice toward creating more value and opportunity for each member of UCCR, and to serve the community. Too often the marketplace for mediation is viewed as a fixed pie where there are only a certain number of cases within limited practice areas that are “rationed out” to mediators. This narrow view leads to the devaluation of mediation and as a result mediation becomes a part-time pursuit or “hobby” for many talented mediators. This should not be the case and does not have to continue. Mediation has tremendous potential to expand into numerous areas and to flourish where it is already gaining traction. All dispute resolution providers and the end users will benefit from this expansion and growth. For this to occur, public awareness and outreach to potential referral bases and the public are critical. As Vice-Chair, and incoming Chair, of the Dispute Resolution Section of the Utah State Bar I would like to combine the efforts of UCCR and the DR Section to work toward enhancing the value and opportunity of all their dedicated members. I believe these efforts will strengthen our network with other professionals, turn hobby into career, and serve the community to the fullest potential. I invite you to view my credentials at www.kingmediation.com under the “Mediators” tab.
Very Truly Yours,
Joshua King

Dear distinguished UCCR Board, and at large member associates. I am honored that I have been nominated for the UCCR Board's At-Large-Seat. To assist you in selecting the candidate for this seat, I will provide you with a brief background of my experience in mediation. In 2001, I completed the basic mediation training in San Francisco, CA. My mediation practice is focused around relationship dispute mediation. I enjoy helping individuals increase their ability to express themselves, and communicate more effectively, allowing for improved understanding and healthy dialog. My involvement with UCCR began in the spring of 2003 when I attended the UCCR Symposium, which I attend yearly. I am employed with the Department of Workforce Services as an Ombudsman, where I implemented an alternative dispute resolution program for the department to assist its customers and staff in developing better working relationships. In 2004, I began mediating for the Department of Human Resource Management, where I mediate workplace disputes for various state agencies. In 2007, I began volunteering as a mediator with the Layton Courts. I serve as a member of the State of Utah's Alternative Dispute Resolution Council. In addition to my employment and my volunteer work, I attend the University of Utah and will earn a Master of Public Administration in the spring of 2008. Once again, I am very honored to have been nominated for the UCCR Board At-Large Seat, and ask for your vote as we continue to expand the mediation movement. Thank you!
